Can't connect to Wi-Fi or slow Wi-Fi

Applies to Galaxy XR.

Galaxy XR depends on Wi-Fi for streaming, downloads and much of Android XR, so a weak connection shows up quickly. Samsung's steps start outside the headset: confirm the router works on another device and clear obstructions. Then restart the headset, reconnect, and try the other band, 2.4 or 5 GHz. Resetting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings clears saved networks without wiping the headset. A factory data reset is the last resort, because it erases apps and setup.

Official steps

  1. Check the router works on another device; remove obstructions/interference
  2. Restart the headset (hold Top button + Volume down)
  3. Reconnect in Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi; try the other band (2.4/5 GHz)
  4. Reset network: Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings
  5. Factory data reset as a last resort, then contact your ISP

Still not working?

If other devices connect fine and the headset still will not, contact Samsung Support with the router model and band you tried. If every device on the network is slow, the issue is the connection, and Samsung's guide sends you to your internet provider. Before a factory data reset, Samsung says to back up your data and keep a network connection so you can sign out of your Samsung account.

Questions people ask

Will resetting network settings erase my apps?

No. Samsung's network reset clears Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. Only the factory data reset erases the headset.

How should I restart the router?

Samsung's guide says to unplug it, wait about 10 seconds so it powers down fully, then plug it back in.

Should I use the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band?

Samsung does not pick one. If your router offers both, its advice is to switch between them and keep whichever gives the better connection.

What do I lose with a factory data reset?

The headset is wiped: Samsung's steps end with Delete all. Back up first and stay online so the headset can sign out of your Samsung account.
