Spatial screen (Anchor / Follow modes)
A built-in 3DoF chip keeps the virtual screen pinned in space (Anchor) or moving with your head (Follow).[1]
On XREAL's One series, the 1S and the ROG XREAL R1, a chip inside the glasses tracks how your head turns, which is three degrees of freedom, or 3DoF. That lets the virtual screen behave in two ways. In Anchor mode it stays fixed in space, like a TV on a wall, so you can look away and back. In Follow mode it moves smoothly with your head, which suits lying down or traveling. No phone app is needed; the tracking runs on the glasses. Adding the XREAL Eye camera extends this to 6DoF.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.

How it works
Because the tracking runs in the glasses, Anchor mode works with any source device, including a console or laptop that knows nothing about the glasses. Press the X button to switch between display modes. XREAL's quick guide says a long press on X recenters the screen in front of you in Follow mode; double-clicking X opens the on-screen menu for display, audio and shortcut settings. Since 3DoF tracks only rotation, not position, walking across a room does not move you closer to an anchored screen. XREAL notes some motion blur or trailing when you move your head in either mode, and says lowering brightness can reduce it.
Turn it on
- Press the glasses' button to switch display modes (Anchor, Follow, Ultra-wide).
- In Anchor mode, long-press the X button to recenter the screen in front of you.
Tips
- Use Anchor for desk work and Follow when you are lying down or on the move.
- Recenter after you settle into a new position rather than turning your head to find the screen.
- Lower brightness if you see trailing during head movement.
Limits
- 3DoF tracks rotation only; for position tracking you need the XREAL Eye on supported models.
- Not available on the xbx a01+, which has no head tracking, per press reports.
Questions people ask
Does Anchor mode need special software on my laptop?
No. The tracking runs on the glasses, so it works with any device that outputs video to them.
What is the difference between 3DoF and 6DoF?
3DoF tracks head rotation. 6DoF also tracks moving forward, back and sideways, which XREAL adds with the XREAL Eye camera.
