Walking directions (audio, non-display glasses)
Spoken turn-by-turn walking directions started by voice, without a display.[1]
Meta's camera glasses without a display can now give spoken turn-by-turn walking directions. You ask for a place and the glasses talk you there, while a companion map runs in the Meta AI app if you want to check it. It is useful for walking with your phone in a pocket and your eyes on the street. It works on Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses with recent software. Coverage is the same as on Display: broad in North America, specific cities in parts of Europe. Display owners get a map in the lens instead; see navigation on the display.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.
confirmed · maker says not available · not confirmed · announced · model not sold there
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3): confirmed in 6 countries.
- Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury, Starfire, Capri, Nova): confirmed in 6 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2): confirmed in 6 countries.
- Oakley Meta Vanguard: confirmed in 6 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2): confirmed in 6 countries.
- Oakley Meta HSTN: confirmed in 6 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1): confirmed in 7 countries.
How it works
Say "Hey Meta, navigate me to" and a nearby place. If you do not have one in mind, ask first, for example "Hey Meta, find restaurants near me", then pick one. The glasses speak each turn as you approach it, using your phone's location. While you walk you can follow along on the companion map in the Meta AI app. Say "Hey Meta, end navigation" to stop. Meta's article asks you to set the Meta AI app's location permission to always and precise. Steps are on how to get walking directions.
Turn it on
- Update to the latest glasses software (v128 or later).
- Say "Hey Meta, navigate to [place]".
Tips
- Update the glasses first; press reports tie the feature to software v128 or later.
- Set location permission to always and precise before you set off.
- Pick nearby destinations; Meta's own example is a nearby location.
Limits
- Walking only. Meta does not list cycling or driving for the screenless models.
- City-level coverage in some countries, per Meta's location list.
- The phone must stay with you and connected.
Questions people ask
Do I need Meta Ray-Ban Display for directions?
No. Screenless Meta glasses give spoken walking directions. Display adds a visual map and, since September 2026, cycling and transit.
Why doesn't navigation start in my city?
Meta lists specific cities in some countries. Outside those areas the command may not start a route.
