Audio and video calls
Take phone, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram calls on the glasses; video calls share your point of view from the camera.[1]
Meta's AI glasses work as a hands-free headset for phone calls and for calls on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. The open-ear speakers play the other person and the frame microphones pick up your voice. On models with a camera, a WhatsApp or Messenger video call can switch to the glasses camera so the other person sees what you see. That covers Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, Meta Glasses and Meta Ray-Ban Display. Ray-Ban Meta Audio also handles calls, but it has no camera, so it is audio only. Instagram calling arrived in April 2025.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.
confirmed · maker says not available · not confirmed · announced · model not sold there
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3): confirmed in 29 countries.
- Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury, Starfire, Capri, Nova): confirmed in 17 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2): confirmed in 29 countries.
- Oakley Meta Vanguard: confirmed in 25 countries.
- Meta Ray-Ban Display: confirmed in 6 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2): confirmed in 29 countries.

How it works
Calling apps are linked once in the Meta AI app. After that, "Hey Meta, call [name]" places a call and a tap on the touchpad answers one. The glasses act as a Bluetooth audio device for the phone, so the call itself still runs through your phone and its network or data plan. During a video call you can flip the camera source from the phone to the glasses. On Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta also offers live captions of the other person during phone, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger calls, in English. Meta has also announced a hologram option for WhatsApp video calls on Display that shows a voice-driven digital version of your face, rolling out in Early Access in the US.
Turn it on
- Connect calling apps in the Meta AI app.
- Say "Hey Meta, call [name]" or tap the touchpad to answer.
- During a WhatsApp/Messenger video call you can switch to the glasses camera.
Tips
- Connect each calling app separately in the Meta AI app. A missing link is the usual reason "Hey Meta, call" fails for one app but not another.
- Tell the other person before switching a video call to the glasses camera; the view moves with your head, not your hand.
- On Display, turn on call captions in noisy places where the open-ear speakers are hard to hear.
Limits
- Meta says emergency calls must be started from your phone, not from the glasses.
- The point-of-view switch works on WhatsApp and Messenger video calls. Meta does not list it for regular phone calls.
- Ray-Ban Meta Audio has no camera, so it cannot share a video view.
Questions people ask
Do Meta glasses need their own phone number?
No. The glasses connect to your phone and use the calling apps you link in the Meta AI app. Calls run on your phone's plan or data.
Can the other person see me on a video call?
They see what the glasses camera sees, which is your view, not your face. On Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta has announced a hologram option for WhatsApp that shows a digital version of your face instead.
