Captured photos/videos show 0 KB

Applies to XREAL Eye.

A photo or video from XREAL Eye that saves as an empty 0 KB file means the capture did not make it through. XREAL's troubleshooting ties this to the connection: the Eye was not fully seated in the glasses. Unplug it, reinsert it firmly, and capture again. The empty files themselves cannot be recovered, so it is worth a test shot after reseating before anything important. The empty files show up in the XREAL/DCIM folder in File Management, which is where the Eye saves its photos and videos.

Official steps

  1. Unplug and reinsert XREAL Eye so it's firmly seated, then capture again.

Steps from the maker's support pages.[1]

Still not working?

If new captures still save as 0 KB after reseating, update the glasses firmware and check free storage on the device receiving the files. Then contact XREAL support with the glasses model, firmware version and the device you capture to. A module that keeps losing contact may need replacing. XREAL's contact routes are the form on its website and support@xreal.com. Keep your order number ready; XREAL's warranty runs one year from delivery.

Questions people ask

Can I recover a 0 KB capture?

XREAL's guide only covers reseating the Eye and capturing again. An empty file has no image data to recover.

Where does XREAL Eye save photos and videos?

In the XREAL/DCIM folder. XREAL's guide refers to checking file sizes there in File Management.

Does XREAL's warranty cover lost captures?

No. XREAL's warranty policy says it does not cover loss of information or data, so back up anything important as soon as you capture it.

Why does my mixed-reality video not record?

XREAL says Beam Pro is needed to record mixed-reality video with the Eye, and its spec lists a two-minute maximum per clip.

What resolution does XREAL Eye capture?

The Eye has a 12MP camera. XREAL's spec page lists photos up to 2016x1512 and video at 1600x1200, so a normal capture should never be 0 KB.
