240Hz isn't available

Applies to ROG XREAL R1.

The ROG XREAL R1 can only show 240Hz if the device feeding it sends that refresh rate. XREAL says ROG Ally handhelds and gaming PCs are more likely to support it, while Nintendo Switch and phones may be limited to 60Hz. So a missing 240Hz option usually reflects the source, not the glasses. Check the source's display settings and graphics driver, since the higher rate often has to be chosen there. The R1 reaches 240Hz with its boosted frame rate setting, and the source must be able to send it over the chosen path, direct USB-C or the ROG Control Dock.

Official steps

  1. 240Hz depends on the connected device's output. ROG Ally and gaming PCs are more likely to support it; Nintendo Switch and phones may be limited to 60Hz.

Steps from the maker's support pages.[1]

Still not working?

If a source that supports 240Hz still will not offer it, test the connection through the ROG Control Dock as well as directly, and update the R1 and the source's graphics drivers. Contact XREAL support if it persists, with the device model and connection path.

Questions people ask

Can Nintendo Switch run R1 at 240Hz?

XREAL says Switch and phones may be limited to 60Hz.

Does 240Hz change text quality?

Slightly. XREAL says the 240Hz mode uses image processing that can soften text. See blurry text at 240Hz.

Where do I change the R1 refresh rate on a PC?

In ASUS DisplayWidget Center, which XREAL names as the tool for brightness, contrast, refresh rate and multi-screen settings.

Will a Steam Deck run the R1 at 240Hz?

XREAL lists the Steam Deck for a direct connection but does not say which refresh rates it reaches. Check the Steam Deck's own display settings.

Can a phone drive the R1 at 240Hz?

XREAL says phones may be limited to 60Hz. The R1 still works with phones that have DP Alt Mode, only at a lower refresh rate.
