Text looks slightly blurry at 240Hz
Applies to ROG XREAL R1.
Slightly soft text at 240Hz on the ROG XREAL R1 is expected, according to XREAL. The 240Hz mode uses image processing to reach that refresh rate, and the tradeoff is a small loss of text clarity. Games benefit from the smoother motion. Documents, code and spreadsheets do not, so XREAL suggests dropping to a lower refresh rate for text-heavy work. It is a setting choice, not a defect to repair.
Official steps
- This is expected. 240Hz mode uses image processing that can slightly reduce text clarity, so use a lower refresh rate for text-heavy work.
Steps from the maker's support pages.[1]
Still not working?
If text looks blurry at lower refresh rates too, check the fit and nose pad, since glasses sitting off-center can blur the image, and confirm any prescription inserts are seated. If clarity is still poor, contact XREAL support and say which refresh rates and sources you tested. XREAL takes requests through the contact form on its website or at support@xreal.com.
Questions people ask
Is blurry text at 240Hz a hardware fault?
No. XREAL says it is expected because the 240Hz mode uses image processing.
Can the wrong frame size blur the picture?
It can affect how the image lines up. The R1 comes in Size N for IPD 57-66mm and Size B for IPD 66-75mm, so check you have the right one for your eyes.
What helps clarity in a bright room?
XREAL suggests the three-level electrochromic dimming, which darkens the lenses to cut ambient light and improve contrast.
Are there prescription lenses for the R1?
Yes. XREAL sells optional R1 prescription lenses in 1.6 and 1.67 index, standard or blue-light-blocking, that fit the included lens frame.
What does XREAL say causes the blur?
It says that when 240Hz mode is on, the system uses specific image processing algorithms to reach the higher refresh rate. Text-heavy work suits a lower refresh rate.
