Messaging (WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, phone SMS/iMessage)
Send and hear messages, voice notes and photos by voice through connected messaging apps.[1]
Messaging on Meta's AI glasses is voice first. You link WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and your phone's own text app once, and after that you can dictate a message, send a voice note, or send a photo you just took, all without picking up the phone. Incoming messages are read aloud through the open-ear speakers. It works on Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, Meta Glasses, Ray-Ban Meta Audio and Meta Ray-Ban Display. On Display, messages also show in the lens; see messages on the display.
Where it works
Ten of the biggest markets are shown. A tick needs an official statement for that country; "Not confirmed" means the maker hasn't said either way. For any other country use the lookup.
confirmed · maker says not available · not confirmed · announced · model not sold there
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3): confirmed in 29 countries.
- Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury, Starfire, Capri, Nova): confirmed in 17 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta Optics (Gen 2): confirmed in 29 countries.
- Oakley Meta Vanguard: confirmed in 25 countries.
- Meta Ray-Ban Display: confirmed in 6 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2): confirmed in 29 countries.
- Oakley Meta HSTN: confirmed in 25 countries.
- Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1): confirmed in 18 countries.
How it works
Meta's help center says you connect Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and your iPhone or Android phone with the Meta AI app to call and message by voice. With the apps linked, "Hey Meta, send a message to [name]" starts a message and the glasses read it back before sending. When a message arrives, the glasses can read it out and offer a spoken reply. On camera models you can take a photo and ask Meta AI to send it to a contact. The glasses rely on your phone for the network; they do not have their own connection.
Turn it on
- In the Meta AI app, connect WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and/or your phone's messaging app.
- Say "Hey Meta, send a message to [name]".
Tips
- Use distinct contact names. Two contacts with similar names make voice sending error-prone.
- Check each app's link in the Meta AI app if one stops working after a phone update.
- Pair messaging with calls; both use the same app links.
Limits
- Emergency calls must be started on your phone, not from the glasses, per Meta.
- The phone must be nearby and connected, since it sends the messages.
Questions people ask
Does it work with iMessage?
Meta says you can connect your iPhone or Android phone's messaging to the Meta AI app. On an iPhone that is the built-in Messages app.
Can I send photos from the glasses?
Yes, on models with a camera. Ray-Ban Meta Audio has no camera, so it handles text and voice only.
