Are Meta glasses waterproof?
No. Meta does not sell any glasses as waterproof. Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta HSTN and Meta Ray-Ban Display are rated IPX4, which covers splashes and light rain. Oakley Meta Vanguard is rated IP67, the highest rating in the lineup.
IPX4 is a splash rating. Ray-Ban's FAQ says glasses with it are safe if you get caught in light rain, and tells you to take them off as soon as you can and wipe them completely dry. That rating applies to Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), Gen 3, the older Gen 1, Oakley Meta HSTN and Meta Ray-Ban Display. Nothing in that wording suggests dunking or rinsing them.
Vanguard is the exception. Meta calls it its most water-resistant frame, with an IP67 dust and water rating, and pitches it at runners and cyclists. One wrinkle: Oakley's own FAQ still lists IPX4 for every Oakley Meta model. Meta's announcement and the Vanguard product page both say IP67, so we go with those.
Some models have no published rating in the sources we hold. Meta Glasses (Adventurer, Fury and the rest) have press reports of IPX4, but Meta has not stated it on a page we could read. Ray-Ban's US page lists IPX4 across its range, which would cover Ray-Ban Meta Audio and Optics, but we have not seen a separate spec sheet for either. The Meta Neural Band that comes with Display is rated IPX7.
The charging case has no rating in anything Meta publishes. If liquid reaches the contacts, the case flags it: Meta lists "liquid detected" as one cause of a red blinking charging error and says to wipe the contacts on both the glasses and the case before trying again. None of the official pages we read describe swimming as a supported use, for any model. IPX4 covers splashes, and even Vanguard's IP67 rating is pitched at sweat and bad weather during sport. Keep them out of pools and the sea.
Is the charging case water resistant?
Meta publishes no water rating for any of its charging cases. Dry the glasses before docking them, because the case reports a charging error when it detects liquid on the contacts.
