Best smart glasses for movies and gaming in 2026

For films and games you want video glasses: wired displays that show a big virtual screen from a phone, laptop, handheld or console. They have no AI assistant and usually no battery, since the source device powers them over USB-C. The specs that matter are field of view, brightness, refresh rate, dimming, prescription options and how the glasses connect. Consoles such as Nintendo Switch and PlayStation usually need a dock or adapter. Worth waiting for: Meta VR Glasses, announced for spring 2027 at $1,299.99 with a tethered puck. XREAL AURA, on Android XR, is also planned for fall 2026. Every pick below is on sale now.

  1. Best overall: XREAL 1S
  2. Biggest, brightest picture: VITURE The Beast
  3. Best for fast games: ROG XREAL R1
  4. Best budget pick: XREAL xbx a01+
  5. Best budget pick with Rx dials: VITURE Luma

How we ranked

Ranked by published field of view, brightness, refresh rate, resolution, dimming, built-in prescription correction, device compatibility and US price. Makers measure brightness and field of view differently, and some figures conflict between store pages and spec sheets; we use spec pages where they exist. We did not test picture quality, latency or comfort. Where a maker lists conflicting figures, the device page shows both.

Questions people ask

Will video glasses work with a Nintendo Switch?

Usually with extra hardware. XREAL 1S and One need the XREAL Hub plus power, VITURE models need a VITURE dock or adapter, and ROG XREAL R1 uses its included dock. Press reports say xbx a01+ doesn't work with Switch.

Do I need 3DoF for movies?

Not necessarily. With 3DoF, the screen stays pinned in space as you turn your head; without it, the screen moves with you. XREAL 1S, One and R1 have it built in, and xbx a01+ has none.
