Meta AI voice assistant
Answers questions, sets reminders/timers and controls the glasses when you say "Hey Meta" (or press the action button on newer models).[1]
Meta AI is the voice assistant built into Meta's AI glasses. Say "Hey Meta" and it answers questions, sets timers and reminders, controls music and calls, and reports things like remaining battery. On Gen 3, Meta Glasses, Optics and Vanguard you can also map it to the action button, and on all models you can tap and hold the touchpad. Ray-Ban Meta Audio has it too, without the camera features. Ray-Ban Stories does not offer Meta AI. Meta Glasses launched in June 2026 running on Meta's Muse Spark model.

How it works
Wake-word listening is controlled under Settings, then Voice, in the Meta AI app; both Voice and "Hey Meta" need to be on. The glasses capture your question with their microphones and pass it through your phone to Meta AI, then speak the reply. You can set Meta AI to one of the languages Meta lists, choose a voice, and change the speaking rate between 0.75x and 1.75x under Meta AI, then Language and voice, in the glasses' device settings. Meta also serves extra languages through partners; those need Wi-Fi and may lack calling, messaging, Live AI and voice selection. Steps are on how to change Meta AI's language and voice.
Turn it on
- In the Meta AI app go to Settings > Voice and make sure Voice and "Hey Meta" are on.
- Say "Hey Meta" followed by your question, e.g. "Hey Meta, how much battery is left?"
- On Gen 3, Meta Glasses, Optics and Vanguard you can also assign Meta AI to the action button.
Tips
- Map Meta AI to the action button on models that have one if you often use it in places where talking to your glasses feels awkward.
- Raise the speaking rate once you are used to the voice; long answers go faster.
- Ask "Hey Meta, how much battery is left?" instead of opening the app.
Limits
- Meta says Meta AI languages vary by region and does not publish a per-country table.
- Partner languages need Wi-Fi, and some features may be missing or slower.
- Not offered on Ray-Ban Stories.
